You're just as likely to catch something while she does not have her period. It does not matter. If you do not trust her word, use protection everytime. Use it even if you do.

If neither one of you have been with any other people then you two are probably safe. l would suggest you both get checked out as soon as possible. l get checked every year. It is nothing uncommon.
