l have had my period for a little over a year now but l only get it every other month. l know that it is supposed to be irregular at first, but for how long? Also, l have hypothyroid disease - would that make a difference? What is wrong with me?!

l am not sure if your hypothyroid has anything to do with it so you should probably see a doctor but many things can affect your cycle like weight loss/gain, stress, or hormone imbalance. Sometimes l skip my period for 3 or 4 months at a time but it is just because l have a hormone imbalance. When l am on the pill everything is regular again. Do not stress over it and make an appointment to see your dr.

l am 16 now & l started my period when l was 12. l still have irregular periods, with worse than what u have. Like l would have a period then one 3 months later, or l would have a period & then have one the next week. Periods will be irregular for a long time. Birth control helps the irregularity of periods, if ur mom would not care putting u on it, u should talk to her about it. Their is not anything wrong with you, l have talked to alot of my friends about their periods & some r even more irregular than me, alot of my friends got birth control for those reasons. It just does not bother me as much so l do not worry about it, & just carry a tampon with me for when l might start randomly. l do not think it has anything to do with ur hypothyroid disease, but it might that u should ask ur doctor.

It will take some time in order for your cycle and periods to become regular. This can take up to 3 years.
